Adriano and Alejo ‘What I’m Riding’ Santa Cruz Edition

Adriano and Alejo ‘What I’m Riding’ Santa Cruz Edition

by Ryan

Adriano and Alejo have their hands full today in round 5 of the O’Neill Cold Water Classic. First up in heat number 1 team rider Alejo Muniz faces fellow Brazilian Gabriel Medina. Medina is coming off a controversial loss at the RipCurl Portugal and would like nothing more than to redeem himself in Santa Cruz. This heat will showcase the progressive up and coming talent Brazil has to offer. It will come down to who chooses the right waves, picks the best line, and more than likely pulls of the biggest airs. Alejo will be riding the MF Ducks Nuts, an extremely responsive board with single to double concave, which creates smooth rail-to-rail transitions. Its flatter front entry creates heaps of drive and is a great board for high performance waves like Steamer Lane.

In heat number four Adriano De Souza takes on the always dangerous Kelly Slater, who is campaigning for his 12th ASP World Title. However, Adriano has had a solid year with a win at J-Bay, a second place finish at the Quiksilver Pro, a 3rd place finish at Trestles, and another 3rd place finish in Portugal. Adriano will be riding the DX1, the same model he won J-Bay on. The DX1 is a fast, responsive, user-friendly board that can handle a variety of conditions from 6 foot J-Bay to 2 foot beach breaks. Adriano knows what it takes to beat Slater, having beaten him in the Portugal Final last year.

Both Alejo and Adriano have the ability and equipment under their feet to win their heats and move deeper in to the competition. These heats are going to showcase progressive surfing at it’s best and will be very exciting to watch. Stay tuned to for more team updates.
