Kyuss King is on a mission to cryogenically freeze his gromhood. He’s a rare breed in that he’s living out every young surfer’s dreams and he’s outspokenly grateful for the opportunity. In the lineup at Lowers he mentioned how lucky he is to get a few days to compete there with no crowd. So he does it with panache. He’s neon green! He’s purple! He refuses to cut the bleach blond mop that hits his shoulder blades. That’d be a death sentence. And when I make a comment empathizing with the pain of braces, he shrugs it off. “I was actually supposed to get them taken off a couple months ago. I don’t even need them anymore.” Dude loves the braces. Respect. And while he’s enjoying the life of a young traveling surfer, he hints at his future goals. “It’s every grom’s dream to be a world champion,” says King. @kyussking

DHD is pleased to announce the addition of Alyssa Lock to the DHD family. Regarded as one of the most gifted up-and-coming groms in Australia, Alyssa is a key addition to an extremely talented junior team.
In 2012 Alyssa won the Occy Grom 14s division, took out both the 14s and 16s of the Lennox All Girls Showdown, won the Barton Lynch Blast Off for the 4th consecutive year, and also took out both the Queensland and New South Wales Ripcurl Grom Searches in the 12s.
Contributing to Alyssa’s past successes has been the development achieved with Bourton Shapes. As Murray drives his business more towards high-end custom designs, this is a perfect opportunity for Alyssa to embark on a future pathway with DHD where the core of his focus is on the elite high performance market.
“I’m so excited be on the DHD Team and my new boards are going sick!”
The start of 2013 has been highlighted so far with Alyssa being granted a place as the youngest surfer ever to compete in the Roxy Pro Trials and although she didn’t advance it was a defining milestone in this young surfers life.
“We are fortunate to have a surfer of Alyssa caliber representing DHD,” said DHD Junior Team Manager, Andy Tuttle. “Alyssa is no stranger to the podium and surfs well beyond her years. We look forward to what the future holds for this rising star’s surfing career.”
