Adriano De Souza has won the 2013 Rip Curl Pro in clean three-to-five foot surf over WCT rookie Nat Young.  The win at Bells Beach marks the Brazilian’s fourth world tour victory and puts him in 4th place in the race for the 2013 ASP World Championship.

Adriano was in fine form throughout the competition. He elected to ride his rounded pin DX1, which provided more hold in the pocket of the waves at Rincon and allowed for bigger arcing turns across the face of the waves in the Bowl. With powerful and precise turns Adriano took down Kolohe Andino in round 3, smashed Raoni Monterio and CJ Hobgood in round 4, snuck by fellow team rider Mick Fanning in the quarters, beat Jordy Smith in the semis before ending the rookie Nat Young’s hot streak in the finals.

Adriano is the first Brazilian to claim the men’s title in the iconic event’s 52-year history. “This is the most important event on tour to me,” De Souza said. “Guys like Andy Irons, Kelly Slater, and my hero Mick Fanning, they all have rung the bell. I have been coming here for a lot of years. I love the place.”

Bells was also an exciting event for test pilot and surfing phenom Leo Fioravanti. Leo was crowned the 2013 RipCurl International GromSearch Champion and rode his Project 15 to victory. “It was super fun. I got a high score, and I won it, I’m stoked,” Fioravanti said. “The best in the world have won it. If I keep working hard hopefully I can make it onto the tour.”

“What a great event for Adriano and Leo. Leo is such a good kid and I have been making him boards for years so it was good to see him win the GromSearch. And to see Adriano win after getting knocked out of round 2 at Snapper was amazing. He was so excited he broke the bell! It was a great event for the boys and that marks the sixth bell for DHD team riders, I am pumped for Adriano and with Brazil up next he could do some serious damage,”—DH.
