Isabella made the Final in her first event back from surgery, Ethan reached the Semis, and seven DHD surfers took on Cloud 9.
The CT's first visit to Cloud 9 on Siargao landed with 4–8ft of typhoon swell over a shallow reef, and it was the most watchable contest of the year. The judges made it clear early that tubes would win heats, and the surfers who could read the reef and get deep were the ones who went through.
Isabella Nichols was the standout for the team. She'd missed Trestles and Portugal after ankle surgery, and she came back and beat Molly and Tyler Wright on her way to the Final, where Caity Simmers edged her 12.00 to 10.77.
Ethan had the best heat of our week, a 17.17 against Filipe Toledo in the Quarters, and he lost his Semi to Jack Robinson by just 0.63. Molly went out in the Quarters after snapping a board in Round 1, but she's still world No. 1 and 545 points clear of Carissa Moore. Nadia made the Quarters, Liam and Connor went out in Round 2, and Connor beat Callum in an all-DHD opener for the second event in a row.
Gabriel Medina won the men's event and Caity Simmers won the women's. Pipeline is next, from December 8 to 20, and it's worth 1.5x points.

Isabella missed Trestles and Portugal after ankle surgery, so nobody quite knew what to expect at Cloud 9. She scraped through her opener against Lakey Peterson by 0.20, and from there she found her rhythm fast.
Her 8.17 against Molly in the Quarters was her best wave of the event, and it sent the world No. 1 home 13.50 to 2.57. She followed it by beating Tyler Wright 10.17 to 7.00 in the Semi, then ran into Caity Simmers in the Final and lost 12.00 to 10.77.
Runner-up in her first event back is a big result, and she heads to Pipe ninth in the world.

Ethan Ewing
A 17.17 against Filipe Toledo, then a Semi decided by 0.63.

Photo: WSL / Andrew Shield
Ethan opened against local wildcard John Mark Tokong in front of a crowd that was very much on Tokong's side, and he handled it, winning 14.50 to 11.54 with an eight and a 6.50.
His Quarter against Filipe Toledo was the heat of the day. Filipe went to the air for a 9.43, but Ethan stuck with the tube, threading a hollow one for an 8.00 and then a deeper, longer barrel finished with a big carve for a 9.17. That was a 17.17 total, and it was enough.
The Semi against Jack Robinson went right down to the last few minutes. Robbo banked an 8.33 and an 8.30 early, and Ethan answered with an 8.23 and a 7.77 inside a minute of each other, but he couldn't find the last one and lost 16.63 to 16.00.
Equal third, and still seventh in the world going into Pipe.

Molly Picklum
Snapped a board in Round 1, moved to her backup DNA, and she's still world No. 1.

Photo: WSL / Matt Dunbar
Molly opened against 15-year-old local wildcard Mara Lopez and won comfortably, 11.50 to 4.50, though she snapped a board on a bigger set along the way and moved to her backup DNA.
Her Quarter against Isabella didn't go her way. Isabella found the waves and Molly didn't, and she went out 13.50 to 2.57.
She's still in the yellow jersey, but her lead over Carissa Moore is down to 545 points. Pipeline will decide it.

Nadia Erostarbe
Turned her opener in the last three minutes and made the Quarters.

Photo: WSL / Andrew Shield
Nadia was behind Sawyer Lindblad for most of her opener, until she caught two waves in the last three minutes and flipped the heat 10.04 to 9.57.
That set up a Quarter against Tyler Wright, who was finding the cleanest tubes of anyone in the women's draw, and Nadia went out 13.67 to 7.93.
Equal fifth at Cloud 9 and 11th in the world.

Liam O'Brien
Beat João Chianca, then lost to Medina's last-minute 8.40.

Photo: WSL / Matt Dunbar
Liam's opener against João Chianca was one of the best heats of Round 1. Both of them traded tubes all the way through, and Liam's late, deep drop for a flat eight was the difference, 14.33 to 13.33.
In Round 2 he did everything right against Gabriel Medina, pairing an 8.33 tube with a big indy for a 6.17. He was still in front with a minute to go, until Medina found a four-part combination for an 8.40 and won 15.23 to 14.50.
Thirteenth in the world heading to Pipe.

Connor O'Leary
Beat Callum in the all-DHD opener for the second event running.

Photo: WSL / Andrew Shield
Connor and Callum drew each other in the opener again, just like in Portugal. Connor put three big backhand turns together early and had 13 points on the board before Callum got going, and he won it 13.13 to 9.90.
Against Yago Dora in Round 2 he kept attacking the lip, and he held the heat for most of it, but Yago found a deep backside tube in the last few minutes and went through 14.00 to 12.14.
Fifteenth in the world.

Callum Robson
Drew Connor in Round 1 for the second event in a row.

Callum drew Connor in the opener for the second event running, and it went Connor's way again. He found a couple of quick tubes late in the heat, but Connor was already too far ahead, and it finished 13.13 to 9.90.
He's 20th in the world going into Pipe.

The Juliette at Cloud 9
Five of the seven DHD surfers at Cloud 9 rode a Juliette. Ethan and Nadia were on the round tail version, and Liam, Connor and Callum rode the standard Juliette. Isabella and Molly were both on the MF DNA.
Cloud 9 asked for two things on the same wave: hold to stay high and deep in a fast, square tube, then enough release to finish with a turn on the end section. That's where the Juliette made sense, and Ethan's 9.17 against Filipe Toledo, a deep tube finished with a big carve, is a good example of both.
Ethan's Juliette RT was 6'1" x 19" x 2 5/8". Nadia rode hers at 5'10" x 18 5/16" x 2 5/16", and Isabella took her MF DNA all the way to the Final.
